Of course Sven-Goran is the worst manager that ever manage any team, but I don't think he could do much about it today. If the referee decides that Portugal has to advance and shows Rooney a ridiculous red card and refuses to call the penalty when lennon is fouled in the box, then that's bad luck

I think Sven should take most blame because he refused to take advantage of his strikers for today's game. England needed to press and attack with a 2 striker formation but they did nothing but hold and slow the game down until the overtime periods. If they played with the same pressing attack in regulation as they did in OT, they would have been the victors. The Argentine ref deserves blame but not nearly so much as a manager whose blunders got them in a position to be fucked.

I am positively heartbroken. The only thing that makes this gutting loss slightly less so is that this is the end of Sven's reign. We lost this game the day he was hired.

I can't believe it. Just when I had jumped on England's wagon, too, dammit. To quote the great Jim Mora, "In my opinion ... that sucked."

By the way, Flash, not sure if it is because you want to disembowel and decapitate Sven or not, but I like the black.

The only people that think that wasn't a red card spell elevator L I F T. He stomped on the guys nuts, and then pushed a player. It was a stupid stupid thing to do. England I thought looked better AFTER Rooney was gone than before though. That Lennon fucker can fly, if he started instead of beckham who knows. I'm very sorry about the loss however. Before you complain TOO much about the referee though, you have to keep in mind that Portugal was depleted by some bad calls in the previous match that were bad enough that the ref was removed. I thought England would win for that reason. If Rooney doesn't stomp the mans balls who knows what would have happened. Red cards ruin games :-/

I just wanted to say that I like the black but I also like the Flash guy. Even though the black is just because you're in mourning, if you can do both, that'd be tight.

I spell elevator L I F T and I easily recognise that Rooney behaved like a right hooligan and the ref made the proper call. Sven put us at the disadvantage with all of his inadequacies but if Rooney could have kept his head about him, we'd have won it.

Definately a tough result for the three lions yesterday but they really have no one to blame but themselves. Rooney had his chances and Lampard was downright comical.

The thing that drives me crazy is that it was all setting up nicely for England to play next Sunday vs Germany for all the marbles.

Instead, they are going home to a Portuguese side that shamefully played for a tie even though they had a man advantage for over an hour. Ugh.

PS, there's only one Owen Hargareves, eh?

van Cutsem is right. Sven lost this game for us long ago but hammered the nail in the coffin with insisting upon a 4-5-1 against a diminished Portuguese side. I agreed with the formation last game because I believed Lampard and Gerrard would really help push Rooney forward. But it became very apparent very quickly that Lampard had left his touch back at Stamford Bridge and Sven did nothing to remedy it.

I must congratulate our boys, however, for putting on a gutsy performance after the Rooney send off. In the end, he was our downfall.

Now now Cullen, Frank wouldn't like you having a go at him, he says he deserves better than that...
