Arsenal Kinda Sorta Destroy Liverpool, 1-1Before facing the Scousers, Arsene Wenger said that this match would be the true test in a long run toward the Premier League title. And William Gallas noted that "This is the day when we will find out if the boys have become men." After this match, it is abundantly clear that not only did the lads pass the test with flying colors but they are also man enough to contend for the title. We came out in a 4-5-1 with Adebayor up top, Rosicky and Eboue on the wings and Cesc, Hleb and Flamini in the middle but we were on the attack from go. It was ridiculous. No hesitancy, no caution. It was, sorry to say, balls to the wall football. Absolutely magnificent. But Liverpool looked just as good and with only 6 minutes off the clock, Steven Gerrard ripped a free kick through a gap in the wall the size of Alex Rodriguez's ego.
![]() Though we controlled possession from then on, we couldn't penetrate through Liverpool's midfield. But we held on through the half and then a new Arsenal emerged... or maybe it was a diminished Scouser side. They locked down on defense, lost Xabi Alonso and never contended again. The menacing presence of Gallas and Toure turned their shots on goal into fruitless pursuits, with balls flying directly into Almunia's chest or dribbling slowly to his feet. And as Liverpool grew weaker, The Arsenal grew stronger.. with every minute we became sharper and more accurate until Cesc Fabregas finally broke through with a gem in the 80th minute.
The lads never panicked, never faltered and never surrendered - even with Eboue, Rosiky and Adebayor looking like they left the bulk of their skills in London. This match was a true measuring stick for this team and we showed we have what it takes to contend for a championship. I hope ManUre is paying attention... but that might be tough, what with the beautiful football they're playing lately... too bad. I guess they can't all be Tottenham, eh, Toxic? :-D ![]() Posted at October 30, 2007 4:32 AM Permalink • Filed under: Arsenal FC , Football (Soccer) |

Though you'd think that's a little late in the going for some magic, we should have won by a hatful. The lads squandered at least four golden opportunities with blasts both wide of and off the post. But at the end of the day, you just can't be upset about walking away from Anfield with a point and a game in hand on ManUre.

You made me sad, nasty girl :¬(
We could be heroes... Just for Juande
Well it has take some considerable time for the Woolwich Wanderers to start playing football, up until the latter part of the last century and I have to say they play Tottenham style football pretty well.
Though Adebayor is still a useless streak of piss.
How many goals will the scousers get with dodgy (ARSEnal style come fly with me) free kicks/pens this year?

If you had said Eboue would be totally off his game and Adebayor would be a relative non-factor before the match, I never would have imagined this result. Liverpool is lucky to have escaped with a point.

Ahhh, the youth movement. It just feels better and better with each passing game.
It's kind of sad about Tottenham this year. They suck so amazingly hard that it's not even fun to hate them this year. Wow. They are really sodding poor.

After watching Tevez and Rooney apparently share the same brain on Tevez's second goal this past weekend...it's safe to say the league battle is going to be a dogfight this year.
It may even do the unthinkable, and (gasp!) include more than two teams in said dogfight!!!

It's really been amazing watching Fabregas come into his own. He's turning into a true finisher and the way he's run the midfield this season has been phenomenal. Just wait until he really gets good!

It's about time Arsenal v. Man U meant something more than seeing who would finish in 2nd place to (but 11 points behind) Chelsea.
